WATER AND SANITATION PROJECT

This project is designed to aid communities that face the growing challenges in water delivery and sanitation which is caused by climatic change and it effects on the water table.

These communities will be sensitized on how to face these challenges through practical and efficient methods.

Volunteer daily activities will include:

•   Sensitizing communities on the climatic changes and its effects on water table in Ghana.
•   Treatment of water from rivers before drinking.
•   Conduct research on water sources, effect of climatic change and its effects on the water table in Ghana.
•   Educate the communities on water conservation methods.
•   Help communities identify sources of potable water.
•   Assist communities identify ways of sustaining the supply of clean water.
•   Help sister organizations line pipes, dig boreholes.
•   Carry out survey to identify water table in various communities to site boreholes.
•   Educate communities on maintenance of these boreholes.

ORPHANAGE SPORTS COACHING
This program seeks to develop and unearth sporting talents among the children in orphanages in Ghana who have been particularly left out in the sporting sector. Developing the sporting talents of inmates will help them attain self-confidence among their peers who attend regular schools and live with their parents.
This sports Project will operates in specific orphanages in Ghana: Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana and the Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region.This project is perfect for anyone who love teaching sporting skills to underprivileged children. This is more suited to those looking for an African village experience, with more structure and intense coaching.

There are variety sports activities that volunteer can choose to help train these underprivileged children with appropriate supervision and support .Examples of sporting disciplines available are as follows: Soccer, Basket Ball, Hockey, Netball, and Athletics.

Volunteer’s  Role
During your project, you will have the opportunity to take part in the following programme activities:

•   Assist coaches in sports classes – through skill development, coordination skills, game preparation and training drills.
•   Help in the organization of training sessions and competitions
•   Referee short games for children at the project and in the local community.
•   Give advice and lessons on football tactics.
•   Teach new sports exercises and provide advice on  health issues and requirements.
•   Take part in sporting competitions and local tournaments.
•   Optional teaching within the academy or local schools.

In your spare hours each day, you will also have the fantastic opportunity to teach English within the local schools. The schools will vary in their facilities, but generally consist of a few classrooms with wooden desks and a blackboard, so there are loads of opportunities for you to be creative in your role and make the lessons memorable for the children!

PHYSIOTHERAPY PROJECT
FILE’s Physiotherapy project seeks to enable volunteers who are interested in physiotherapy field, education and research to rehabilitate patients who are physically/ disabled,(either temporarily or permanently due to a disease, pain or trauma) accident victims, to recover  and carry on with their  normal life without further assistance.

Volunteer will also get involved in public education on the prevention of injuries. This may even extend to advising people on the ergonomics of furniture at places of work or homes. Patients are taught to take preventive measures to avoid complications of the illness they are having.
Caregivers could also be sensitized on ways of handling their patients and the appropriate home exercises their patients are supposed will engage on.
Whichever area volunteer chooses volunteers daily activities will embrace the following activities:

•   Volunteers will assist the nurses and medical staff in rehabilitating a physically or functionally ‘disabled patient back to full capacity.
•   Assist to educate and advise the public on injuries prevention. This includes educating caregivers on ways to handle their patients and the appropriate home exercises their      patients are supposed to do.
•   You will also have the opportunity to take preventive measures to avoid complications of the illness they are having. Due to the multicultural nature of the various patients most      of whom will be willing to share their perspective on life with you, volunteers are advised to posses good communication and public relation skills.
•   Assisting and teaching patient with damaged joints and muscles in exercising to  move again, reduce pain or get them fit to carry out their daily activities. 
•   Helping patient how to walk with a walking stick, frame or crutches.
•   Assisting patient with massaging and joint manipulations techniques.
•   Using electrotherapy machines such as ultrasound to treat people with injuries.
•   Helping people with breathing and coughing difficulty  soothe their problem  more effectively.
•   Advising and educating people about activity levels or about their condition.
•   Advising and discussing patient care with other health professionals

Volunteers who are placed at hospital physiotherapy departments will work on the wards. They will go to each ward in turn and discuss any new patients with the nurses and medical staff. They will then go around and treat their patients when they are available - sometimes on the ward and sometimes taking them to the physiotherapy department

ECO-TOURISM PROJECTS
FILE’s Ecotourism project areas are primarily based up in the North of Ghana in Mole National Park, or South, on Cape Coast in Kakum National Park.
We work alongside the park rangers on a variety of conservation schemes to maintain the National Park and its wildlife.

Ghanaian National Parks are famous for their vast numbers of birdlife, smaller wildlife, Mountains, caves, waterfalls.
 During this project we take our volunteers on a four days study tour to some selected historic landmark places as well as spending two days at the North and engage in some activities such as:

•   Shea butter processing,
•   Leather making,
•   Morning safari at mole National park to sport some elephants, monkeys and antelopes,
•   River safari whilst watching birds,
•   Traditional drumming and dancing.
